South Summit’s Track team qualified 5 individuals and 4 relay runners for the state meet at BYU next weekend, May 19th and 20th. The Sprint Medley Team started the Regional meet off with a bang, with Freshman Sam Galati running the hard-fought 800m anchor leg for a time of 3:47. The 4x400m team of Jared Dansie, Hagen Miles, Logan Davis and Jackson Dean earned 1st, both the Medley and 4x400m relays are ranked 3rd in Utah for 2A schools and hope for a fast race at state next weekend.
We had a strong showing in the field events. Both Parker Grajek and Freshman Wesley Jensen cleared 5’08” in the high jump, and Jackson sailed 18-00 feet in the long jump, all placing in the top four. Dylan threw the javelin over 135 feet to earn 2nd and the third Freshman to qualify. In other running events, Parker got 1st in the 110m hurdles, and Parker and Logan came over the finish line 1-2 in the 300m hurdles. The 4x100m relay team of Jared, Kael Atkinson, Hagen and Parker also took first, with an excellent time of 45.35.
Gabe Harry, Brevin Riehl, Luke Gunnerson, Cooper Loftus, Kayo Fitzgerald, Ky Housel, Jared Leary, Brett Willis, DJ Sylvester, Shaffer Meyers, and Levi Fox also participated at Regions, most are underclassmen and have some good years ahead to build the team.
For the girls, Seniors Abby Laswell and Margo Taylor scored points for the team with their 5th place finishes in the 1600m and 800m races for Abby and Margo in the javelin. Megan McNeil, Jillian Tillett, Elizabeth Sampson and Annie Fees also ran and threw well, good job ladies!
Thanks to everyone who helped–coaches, parents, teachers and many students, including other track team members that volunteered to make it all possible.
